Day 101

Yesterday, was insane!  I was concerned that Bailey would run a fever during the night after we picked him up from my sister's house, but thankfully, with round the clock meds, he did fine. I got up at 7:30 yesterday morning and took him to the doctor. We were there from 8am til noon!  But he still didn't have a significant fever. Just a headache, couch, runny nose, and sore throat.

As soon as we walk into the office he starts complaining of his stomach and asks to use the patient restroom back where the nurses are. A couple seconds later a nurse steps out and says she thinks he needs me that he is throwing up. I go into the bathroom and he has puke everywhere. So I had to clean that up. Thankfully they had paper towels, Lysol spray, and Clorox wipes available in the bathroom.

They move us to a room immediately. I'm sure they didn't want him spreading his germs. He gets up on the table and goes back to sleep and Dalton is asleep in my arms. Their normal doctor wasn't there so they had to see another and she acted like a total snot. Ugh.  Anyway she did a flu and strep screen. He tested positive for strep. She didn't test Dalton, because whatever is going on with Bai is what is wrong with Dalton too. She writes them some antibiotics and is gone in a flash. She didn't even give me time to ask her about giving meds for the fevers or what to give for the cough, etc. So I reach down to wake Bailey up and he is scorching hot. I go get a nurse to check his temp. It was 103. The nurse gets the doctor and she says to give him Tylenol and let him go. She could have cared less if he fell over, IMO.

I go to the pharmacy to get their meds filled, and give them the antibiotics before we leave the parking lot. It is about a 15-20 minute drive home. We had barely made it through the door before Bailey was puking again. I prayed he had absorbed some of the antibiotics in that time frame.

The rest of the day was a cough, sneeze, cry with your throat, and puke fest. I eventually had to give Bailey Phenergan. I don't like to give it to them because it makes you so sleepy, but he can't take Zofran. It gives him severe migraines and that is all he needed.

Dalton ran a low-grade fever all day, but it was manageable. Bailey on the other hand scared me to death. Even after alternating Tylenol/Ibuprofen around the clock we couldn't keep his fever down. It got up to 104 at one point. He took luke-warm showers, ate popsicles, drank cold water, had cool rags on his forehead, neck, arm pits and backs of his knees. We did it all. The kid was so miserable.

Even though he was miserable, he is still Bailey. And if you know Bailey, you know you can never expect what will come out of his mouth next. Here is a funny FB status update from yesterday. {{Bailey is finally awake. I ask him "Are you feeling better?" He says "I don't know." I reply, "You don't know? Do you feel any better at all?" He said "Well my stomach isn't hurting as bad." I say "That is because I gave you phenergan." He is suddenly wide awake .. "You did not give me phenergan." "Bailey, I know I did!" "You did not!" "Bailey, do you remember that little white pill I gave you 1/2 of?" "Yeah!" "Well, that was phenergan." "Mom! Are you saying phenergan or vinegar?" "Phenegran Bailey! Why on earth would I give you vinegar?" "Well, I don't know Mom. I'm not a doctor!" I have laughed until I cried.}}

I was really worried about how the night would go.. cause usually that is when fevers get the worst. But evidently the 3 doses of antibiotics had kicked in a little because with the Tylenol/Ibuprofen it was manageable. Thank God! It is 11 am and they are still resting. Normally I'd wake them, but I think I'll just let them rest. I'm sure their bodies need it.

I did fair yesterday with my calories. I didn't go over, but I cut it close.  No Diet Coke or caffeine at all for that matter and I did manage to walk 2.25 miles while watching Out of the Wild: Venezuela. I didn't know if I'd like that show, but it is pretty good. I ended up watching it on Netflix all afternoon.

So that was my day yesterday... now I better get up an start disinfecting this house.

  3. "Well, I don't know Mom. I'm not a doctor!" <----Priceless! Made me think of Star Trek version: "I'm a child mother, not a doctor!"

    Boo for the snot doctor!

    1. Bailey is definitely the comedian of the family. You never know what to expect from him.
